bone collecting

I Gather the Dead is based around foraging, scavenging and being respectful of the land.

Whenever possible we try to find ways to thank the Earth for its gifts : we collect trash in the woods while collecting bones, pull up fishing line and hooks from the riverbanks and strive to be responsible, sustainable and as low impact as possible in all aspects of life.

We put in the extra effort so you can feel good about our jewelry. We encourage education, empathy and sustainable practices.

We will always be up front about where the bones come from; common sources included natural or predator deaths, "hunter dump sites" in the woods and occasionally roadkill (gathered in states where it is legal to do so)

The bone selection depends on luck, time of year and location. These precious bits of nature are gifts... treasures... to be treated as such.

This shop does NOT buy 'bulk' bones from trappers, fur farmers, butchers, taxidermists or sport hunters. That is why you will not find multitudes of identical bone items, and why many items are one of a kind.

The bulk bone items found on Etsy, such as 'coyote canine teeth' by the 100's are NEVER cruelty free. These animals are not eaten, these deaths are Not natural.

Please - do not support trophy hunters, fur farms, factory farming or exotic animal imports. This kind of behavior is detrimental to the Ecosystem and Wildlife.

Respect the Wilderness

Please think carefully about the sources when buying bone, feather and leather items.
